  Looking for underhanded contractors who will take your money and not call you back—hire Zimmer and Kohl. Want a reasonable estimate for a job only to have them tack on thousands of dollars at the end of a job—hire Zimmer and Kohl. Long story short, we hired them to tile, repair some walls and paint our basement/bathroom/bedroom/laundry room after a water back up and now would have rather dealt with the devil himself. They gave us a fair estimate, we thought. Then they took our check and stopped calling us. We then hounded them for two weeks to get on their schedule. FINALLY, once we got on their schedule, they blew the date. Then they sent their devil of a contractor to our house, Ben, who berated my wife and I and told us the initial estimate was too low and we were supposed to supply the tile. Line 1 of our estimate said, they were responsible for it. He then berated us a little more, literally threw a check for our deposit at us and left our house in a fit of rage. We're not so sure why he was mad at us. We did nothing, we didn't bid the job. So, we worked with them to come up with a new price, stupid us. They increased the cost $3,000. Which was okay because: 1. This is week 5 of dealing with them and week 8 of us living without a basement. 2. All our carpet had been pulled up and was sitting in our garage which we were told they would take when the job was completed. (Hint: it's still there, we can't get our car in the garage now.) 3. We had put money back because, based on the other estimates, we knew we would face some overages. The day comes for us to sign the new estimate and... surprise, they have some how increased the estimate another $7,000. We balked. Zimmer and Kohl are lying, cheating, no good people and their company is a sham. Watch yourself out there and stay away from these guys. Your job will never get done. I think the pictures on this place page are fake. If you want to see the disaster that my basement has now become because of them, let me know—it looks like gernade went off.
